A simple way to get to know the Gregorian repertoire, including how it came about and what it means.
The Cultural Musical Association Hexachorum, working with the Diocesan Museum of Molfetta and the Corradiana Musical Chapel, is now taking enrolment for a course on the history, theory and practice of the Gregorian repertoire. The course will look at how the repertoire came about and how it is understood and interpreted today. It is aimed at anyone who wants to learn more about the subject.
The course will last ten meetings. During the course, you will learn about the history of the Gregorian repertoire. This will help you understand how it came about and how it developed. You will also learn about the different musical notations that were used over the centuries. You will compare these notations to see how they changed. This will help you understand the importance of neumes and how they were used to accompany words. Finally, we will explore how musical modes developed.Theory sessions will be supplemented by workshops and practical activities, using analysis of ancient parchment manuscripts held in the Bishop's Seminary Library in Molfetta.
